| Welcome to CRIWG'97, the 1997 International Workshop on Groupware.
This Workshop follows on the success of two previous CRIWG workshops held in Lisbon, Portugal (1995) and Puerto Varas, Chile (1996). The CRIWG workshops have been motivated by recent advances in Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, and by the need for CSCW to meet the challenges of new application areas. This workshop aims to provide a forum for CSCW academic researchers and professionals to exchange experiences and to engage in discussions of the research issues in designing, building and using CSCW applications. CRIWG97 takes place in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a picturesque village located 50 Km. northwest from Madrid. Located in the middle of the Sierra de Guadarrama at an altitude of 1.000 m., El Escorial is famous for its Monastery build by King Philip II on the sixteenth century. The monastery commands the town and the neighboring region for its impressive structure covering a rectangular area of over 30,000 square meters. We hope that you will have a stimulating and enjoyable workshop with a lot of international contacts in El Escorial. Encarna Pastor & David
